چکیده

Purpose This article seeks to broaden how researchers in supply chain management view resilience by drawing on and integrating insights from other disciplines – particular, the literature of social-ecological systems. Design/methodology/approach Before authors import new notions outside discipline, current state art research is first briefly reviewed summarized. Thinking differently about orthodontics

The face is an organ that has two roles: to provide a set of functions, and to shape the subject’s appearance. It is a living organ. Its components can develop, are often mobile and always diverse. Conventional diagnostic methods entail a frozen representation, in order to be measurable, thus ignoring life. The goal of orthodontic treatment is not to correct a structural abnormality, but to ena...

Systems thinking is often invoked as a panacea for dealing with issues of sustainable development. Imperatives towards being more holistic—getting the bigger picture—are often coupled with a need for greater interdisciplinarity— joined-up-thinking—particularly amongst triple bottom line disciplines of economics, social studies and natural sciences. So why are systems thinking courses not more p...

What we can learn from Helios 522 about how we learn about aviation safety

Abstrac t . The August 2005 Helios 522 accident may end up demonstrating that the reductionist model we apply to understanding safety and risk in aviation (taking systems apart and checking whether individual components meet prespecified criteria) no longer works well. Through a concurrence of functions and events, of which a language barrier was a product as well as constitutive, Helios 522 ma...
